Born in Havana in 1897, he enrolled at the San Alejandro School in 1910, where his early influence was academic. In 1925 he went to Paris, where he came in contact with the modern art tendencies. This would result in the development of “Arte Nuevo”, a movement he participated in when he returned to Cuba in 1927. He died in 1969.
