Dieric Bouts The Elder (1415 - 1475) Born in Haarlem, Bouts worked in Louvain and became the city painter in 1468 and married a woman from a wealthy family. He established a large workshop where he painted many subjects. His style incorporated elongated and calm figures, bold colors, and understated emotion. He produced altarpieces and small devotional paintings. Bouts admired the work of Rogier van der Weyden. His innovation and style had a profound influence on later Flemish painters, including his two sons.
